Bark Collars – Selecting the Right Collar for Your Barking Dog
It is of significant importance to choose the right bark collar to suit your barking dog. By choosing the bark control collar can prevent harm to the dog itself and also improves results. A proper bark collar that suits your dog will help stop barking trouble he/she gives you. Let’s follow the types of bark collars and their features:
- Sonic Collars – these bark collars come with a built – in microphone and it gets into action as soon as it senses the dog’s bark. It has a piercing audible tone. Unfortunately, its effective microphone sensors also react if other dogs bark which might be confusing for the dog as he/she will not realize the reason for the correction. Sonic collars are recommended as an alternative for young small dogs with low drive or a timid temperament.
- Spray collars – these are the collars that spray either Citronella or Lemon Spray when they detect the dog’s bark. Although Citronella collars are well known, but they are not considered the best alternative.
- Citronella collars are microphone activated (that’s right any loud noise can set them off) and both Multivet models on the market are classified as weatherproof (not waterproof!!).
Lemon spray models are waterproof and activated by neck vibration and microphone, meaning no accidental corrections. Lemon spray collars also spray a more direct spray making them more effective in windy conditions. However they are not designed for the stubborn breed of dog as they get used to it and bark through the spray. They are often expensive as well as they require spray refills too.
- Static/Electric Collars – these are supposed to be the most effective bark collars (around 98% effective). Static bark collars for dogs also come in a wide variety of models for small dogs to large stubborn dogs. There are also options for rechargeable or replaceable batteries. For extra reassurance, it comes with both built in microphone and the vibration sensors.
- Electric bark collars are far more advanced collars with automatic cut out switches and variable settings to find the right operating mode for your dog. These collars cannot be worn all day (10-12hrs max).
To help yourself with your barking dog, make sure you choose the right barking collar according to your dog. If a product seems to be right and still doesn’t work for you, try to upgrade the model and recheck. Hopefully this short guide will help you select the right bark collar for your barking dog.
