I’m getting ready to build a round pen with wood boards and I am trying to figure out whether I put the rails on the inside or outside of the posts… I can’t decided b/c while I know that the pen will be stronger if I put them on the inside, if the horse tries to go through it, the boards will just shatter and possibly stab them. And if I put the boards on the outside, I think the board will be more likely to come off the post if a horse tries to go through rather than just shattering, but then it won’t be a strong… So I don’t know… Any other thoughts about inside vs. outside and vice versa??? Thanx in advanced!!!
What do you think about boards on the outside and a few strands of the barbless wire on the inside to try and keep them off of the boards?
The boards should be on the inside of the posts. Otherwise, your knee (when riding) will bump the posts and really hurt, and the horse could also injure itself. Don’t put any wire on it, even if it is barbless. It wouldn’t have any effect at all on the horse, unless it was barbed or electrified, and either way, it isn’t good to use in a round pen or corral.
